Rose Melberg - Cast the Clouds Away

Rose Melberg - Cast the Clouds Away

I need to start this review by saying that I have adored Rose Melberg’s work for over 10 years now. To be quite honest, I have developed an intense girl crush on her.  It’s hard not to love her. From cute love songs with Tiger Trap, to the soft lyical ballads of the Softies, all the way to her post breakup fun time pop songs with Go Sailor, Rose manages to project her amazing personality.
Cast the Clouds Away is the long awaited follow-up to her fist solo album Portola which was released on Double Agent in 1998.  “Portola” is one of my favorite albums ever. It is mostly acoustic, featuring Rose and a few friends (including her mother!) singing covers, love songs and just having fun. Needless to say, I was anxiously awaiting her new cd.
Sadly, I was greatly disappointed upon my first listen. This entire album is filled with sad love songs reminiscent of the Softies. There are no fun covers, no silly songs. It’s rather depressing. Of course, the songs are beautiful but not very catchy. I can’t really distinguish between songs and I have listened to the album about 10 times already.
I’m not sure what our rating system is on this site yet, so I’ll just give it
3 ½ stars or a B-.

Available at Double Agent Records and KPunk
