K Records
Mirah is another one of my favorite recording artists of all time. I have loved every album she has put out. I get really excited when she collaborates with other artists. I think she is pure genius.
But… this album is a train wreck. It makes me want to put my head on my desk and cry. This album consists of two discs of remixed versions of her songs. They are made to be pop songs, and they are not good. These are not “guilty pleasure” pop songs. They are just really bad.
I started listening to Indie rock a long time ago. The reason I did that was because I hated the music that was on the radio. My pop phase ended when I realized the only reason I liked the New Kids on the Block was because I wanted to be like my older cousin. Pop wasn’t my scene, man. I was really young, but I could tell the difference between crap and the good stuff.
I remember when I first heard Mirah. The first song I heard was “The Sweepstakes Prize” and I was hooked. This song was really catchy and cute. I imagined her dancing and singing on stage like it was a bit of a production number. I loved it. This song has been remixed, and I was just listening to it and the happy vibe I used to get from that song was completely sucked out because of the bad pop music added.
This is awful. I thought I could maybe like it after a few listens, but I honestly don’t think I even want to listen to the second disc. This is garbage. It makes me want to yell “WHY? MIRAH???? WHY???”
I know the Blow does poppy dance music, and for some reason it works. This doesn’t. I imagine it was fun for Mirah and friends to make… but it essentially just makes something wonderful into something horrible.
I am really disappointed and I honestly hope this sort of thing does not catch on.
If you want to check this out, Music Saves has it in and it is featured in their listening station. You can also get it from K records.
